Here’s some videos from Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany, Michigan State Football Coach Mark Dantonio, and Michigan Football Coach Rich Rodriguez from the 2010 Big Ten Football Media Day on the Big Ten Network.

Lots of great remarks and also features question and answer sessions from each. Lots of talk about expansion, a conference championship game, division alignment, and officiating from the Commish.

Coach Dantonio gave a nice preview of his team and talked about players to watch out for before answering questions.

Coach Rodriguez gave a quick summary of his team and jumped right into questions.

All in all, lots of great info, and more kudos to the Big Ten Network. I can’t get enough of this stuff!

Leelanau Harvest Tour – September 19, 2010

HarvestTour_2010_color_sOne of my favorite memories with my Dad growing up was riding in the Leelanau Harvest Tour. It’s hard to believe I used to be able to bike 20 miles or more! Leelanau County offers many scenic roads that allow for amazing rides and views throughout the county.

The tour takes place on Sunday, September 19th, 2010 and starts at Glen Lake High School. Camping is available on Saturday night on the school grounds. The tour features 25, 45, 67 and 100 mile routes.

Michigan State Basketball Coach Tom Izzo has decided to turn down the Cleveland Cavaliers offer and stay at MSU. I had a feeling all along this would happen, but to finally have it confirmed is great news!

1906 At Pittsburgh’s Exposition Park, the Pirates become the team to the cover the grass to prevent it from getting wet during a rain storm. A canvas tarp is used to keep the infield dry for tomorrow’s contest against the Cubs.
1915 At the Polo Grounds, Red Sox rookie pitcher Babe Ruth collects three hits, including his first home run. Homer number one, as well as homer number two, hit two weeks later, comes off Yankees’ hurler Jack ‘Crab’ Warhop.
1917 For the second consecutive day, a Browns’ hurler throws a no-hitter as Bob Groom keeps the White Sox hitless in the second game of a twin bill,1925 Ty Cobb hits his fifth home run in two games tying 1884 Cap Anson’s record. 3-0. The Belleville, Illinois native also pitches two hitless innings in the first game.

1953 In his first major league start, Alva Lee Holloman no-hits the A’s, 6-0. The Browns’ rookie will never pitch another complete game, and ‘Bobo’ will win only three games in his one-year career in the majors.
1956 The Cincinnati sweep the Phillies in a doubleheader at Crosley Field, 10-2 and 11-9. Reds outfielder Gus Bell takes reliever Bob Miller deep in both ends of a doubleheader.
1968 Giants’ reliever Lindy McDaniel sets a National League record playing his 225th consecutive game without committing an error. The streak includes 108 chances handled successfully since June 16, 1964.
1974 A’s pitcher Paul Linblad’s major league streak of 385 consecutive errorless games ends when he makes an errant throw in a 6-3 loss to the Orioles.
1978 After going deep on deep as a pinch hitter on May 2, Lee Lacy becomes the first major leaguer to pinch- hit home runs in consecutive at-bats. The Dodgers’ super sub will make it three in a row on May 17.
1982 Beating the Yankees at Kingdome, 7-3, Gaylord Perry becomes the 15th major league player to win 300 games. The ‘Ancient Mariner’ will end his 22-year career with 314 victories.
1983 In a 4-2 California victory over Detroit at Tiger Stadium, Rod Carew, with his 3-for-4 performance, raises his present batting average to .500 (48-for 96). The Angels’ first baseman will finish the season at .339, second best in the AL as Wade Boggs leads the league with .361 pace.
1994 The Cubs 10-1 victory over the Pirates ends Anthony Young’s 29-game losing streak as a starter and snaps Chicago’s record 14-game drought at home. The hard-luck pitcher set major league record with 27 consecutive losses while pitching for the Mets, 14 as starter and 13 in relief.
1998 Cubs’ rookie Kerry Wood ties a major league record with 20 strikeouts in a nine-inning game as he one-hits the Astros, 2-0. In addition to matching Red Sox fireballer Roger Clemens’ feat (Mariners-1986 and Tigers-1996), the 20-year-old Texan breaks the National League record of 19 strikeouts in a nine-inning game shared by Steve Carlton, David Cone and Tom Seaver.
2005 In a 6-5 win over the Cardinals, Trevor Hoffman becomes the third closer in major league history to save 400 games The Padres reliever joins Lee Smith (478) and John Franco (424) as the other bullpen artists who have also reached this milestone.
2007 With a dramatic seventh-inning announcement from the owner’s box, the fans are informed Roger Clemens is once again a Yankee. The right-hander sure Hall of Famer agrees to a one-year, $28-million contract, the highest single-season salary ever paid to a major-league player, to come out of retirement again and pitch in pinstripes for the remainder of the season.
2008 Tim Wakefield, 42, throws eight scoreless innings and 41-year old Mike Timlin does not allow a run in the ninth in the Red Sox 5-0 victory over the Tigers at Comerica Park. It is the first time in the post-1900 era two teammates over 40 years of age have combined to toss a shutout.
2008 Joe Mauer’s double with one out in the ninth inning breaks up Gavin Floyd’s bid for a no-hitter. The White Sox right-hander leaves the contest to a standing ovation from the U.S. Cellular Field crowd with Bobby Jenks getting the last two outs in Chicago’s 7-1 victory over the Twins.
2009 With a 10-3 victory over Washington, the Dodgers break the major league mark for consecutive victories at home to open a season with their 13th straight win in L.A. The previous record of 12 was established in 1911 by the Tigers.

Red Wings Drop Game One of Semifinal

The Detroit Red Wings gave up three quick goals before battling back to lose to the San Jose Sharks 4-3.

Joe Pavelski broke open the score sheet tonight for San Jose before Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi added to the lead within a minute and a half. Dan Cleary cut into that lead with Detroit’s first goal. In the second period, Johan Franzen cut the advantage to one before Pavelski scored his second of the night early in the third. Brian Rafalski scored right afterwards, but no one else netted a puck again.

The Red Wings got caught early in the first after giving up a powerplay goal and found themselves in a quick 3 goal disadvantage. Afterwards this game was mostly the Red Wings. Detroit dominated the face-off circle in the final two periods and Evgeni Nabokov didn’t look great after the first either. San Jose was without Patrick Marleau, one of their top three forwards, tonight. Marleau missed the game because of an illness.

In Play! Man of the Game: Joe Pavelski. Pavelski was the only Shark who seemed to never have a bad shift. He finished the night with three points but didn’t contribute to San Jose’s minus-5 team rating.

Saw this video on mgoblog of Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson highlights from the annual spring game. As an added bonus the highlights are sprinkled with Christopher Walken.

I think Robinson will ultimately win be the man at quarterback for Michigan. He’s quick and has a strong arm. He’ll give Michigan the best chance at getting back to a bowl this season!

Red Wings Destroy Phoenix, Move on to San Jose

The Detroit Red Wings demolished the Phoenix Coyotes 6-1 to win their first game seven road game since 1964.

Pavel Datsyuk was the first on the score sheet tonight, but followed his rebound goal with a beautiful breakaway deke to score tonight’s second goal. Vernon Fiddler gave Phoenix some life, but Brad Stuart, Todd Bertuzzi and two goals from Nicklas Lidstrom put the Coyotes to bed in the desert.

Pavel Datsyuk has a history of embarrassing Ilya Bryzgalov on breakaways and shootouts, and tonight Bryzgalov just wasn’t the same after that goal. Adding to that was the pure domination that Detroit had over this game. Detroit now moves on to San Jose, the number one seed, and will likely play Thursday. Detroit is the only bottom four seed team in the Western Conference to continue to the next round.

In Play! Man of the Game: Pavel Datsyuk. Datsyuk had the first two goals tonight and several other chances. Had Datsyuk not scored on that breakaway goal, Detroit may have lost this game.

Red Wings Beat Phoenix, Can Eliminate Coyotes on Sunday

The Detroit Red Wings broke a 1-1 tie in the third period to go on to a 4-1 win and take a 3-2 lead in the series.

Phoenix faces elimination at the Joe this Sunday.

Drew Miller was first on the board tonight with a goal that was kicked in by Phoenix’s Vernon Fiddler. Ed Jovanovski tied the game during the second. In the third, Tomas Holmstrom and Pavel Datsyuk scored two quick goals before Henrik Zetterberg scored an empty netter to finish the night.

The Red Wings played 40 solid minutes of hockey tonight. They were outplayed during the second period but were bailed out by Jimmy Howard, who played a great game tonight. Detroit just dominated play in the first and third periods. Nicklas Lidstrom was on the ice for all four goals scored by Detroit. Today Lidstrom was not announced as a finalist for the Norris Trophy for just the second time since 1997.

In Play! Man of the Game: Pavel Datsyuk. Datsyuk won the face-off that lead to Holmstrom’s goal and netted his own shortly afterwards. He also recorded stats in every column on the sheet today except he failed to record a hit or giveaway.

DUCHENE, HOWARD AND MYERS NAMED CALDER TROPHY FINALISTS

NEW YORK (April 22, 2010) — Center Matt Duchene of the Colorado Avalanche, goaltender Jimmy Howard of the Detroit Red Wings and defenseman Tyler Myers of the Buffalo Sabres are the three finalists for the 2009-10 Calder Trophy, awarded “to the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition,” the National Hockey League announced today.

RED WINGS TIE SERIES WITH 3-0 SHUTOUT

The Detroit Red Wings rallied back from an early no-goal call to tie the series with the Phoenix Coyotes 2-2 moving back to the desert on Friday.

Henrik Zetterberg opened the column tonight with a powerplay deflection. Pavel Datsyuk drove that lead further late in the third with the second goal of the night before Zetterberg buried the hatchet into Phoenix with his second of the night just 25 seconds later.

Detroit not just opened the door to the Coyotes net tonight, they kept their penalty box busy, giving the Coyotes five power plays and stopping them all. Jimmy Howard controlled his rebounds tonight but made a rallying save on a rare rebound despite losing his mask. The absence of Shane Doan, Phoenix’s captain, from this game played a huge part, allowing the Wings to take better control of the puck around the boards and allowed Detroit to dominate the physical play, out hitting the Coyotes 43-27.

In Play! Man of the Game: Jimmy Howard. Howard stopped all 29 of the Coyotes shots and recorded his first career playoff shutout.

Red Wings Fall to Coyotes in Hockeytown, Down 2-1 in Series

The Detroit Red Wings gave up a goal 29 seconds into the game and never stood a chance, losing 4-2 to the Phoenix Coyotes in Detroit.

Jimmy Howard gave up the first goal to Sami Lepisto tonight just 29 seconds into the game. Valtteri Filppula tied the game before Wojtek Wolski and Petr Prucha put Phoenix back out to the lead. Johan Franzen cut that lead in half, but Radim Vrbata closed the book tonight.

The Red Wings just didn’t bring the same game they had on Friday and never stood a chance starting from the opening face-off. The Wings played a physical game, but that was all they did. Phoenix ended an outstanding plus 15 on the night – the Wings a minus 15. If Detroit continues to play this way then the series is going to be over on Friday when these teams meet for game 5 in Phoenix.

In Play! Man of the Game: Radim Vrbata. Vrbata stepped up when Shane Doan left the game, scoring a goal and getting an assist.
