Detroit Insider: Tigers get Sheffield

author Posted by: Leelanau Sports Guy on date Nov 10th, 2006 | filed Filed under: Detroit Tigers, Norm the Detroit Insider

Norm the Detroit Insider just emailed me 20 minutes ago…

Sheffield for Humberto Sanchez and two pitching prospects. Tigers extend his contract.

Read Tigers deal three pitchers to Yankees for Sheffield at ESPN

My View: WOW! I thought this might be possible, just didn’t think it would happen. The Tigers basically are trading Sanchez straight up for Sheffield at the moment. You never know what the other two prospects Kevin Whelan and Anthony Claggett will do, but for now they are at AA and A. This will be a steal for the Tigers and it gives them the big bat they need in the middle of their lineup. Sheffield hits for average and power, drives in runs, and doesn’t strike out alot. Just what the doctor ordered!

As always with the Tigers big free agent signings lately, health, will be an issue. Before last season’s injuries, Sheffield had played in 154 games each of the previous two seasons. 140 games would be great.

Now we just have to wait and see which pitcher they end up with? Barry Zito perhaps?

2. Tigers Trade Rumors – Prospects are there to make a big deal. Soriano, No……………Abreu……………………..No………….Shawn Green……………..Yes.

Harrington might finally be traded…

The Detroit Insider sent me an email…

Read Harrington will be traded to Dolphins today at MLive

My View: It will be nice to have this distraction out of the Lions way. They even managed to get a draft pick, after it looked like they might have screwed that up. Maybe things are looking up for the Lions!

author Posted by: Leelanau Sports Guy on date Apr 28th, 2006 | filed Filed under: Detroit Lions, Norm the Detroit Insider

Opinions on four current sports topics and one random topic from Norm the Detroit Insider…

1. Rod Marinelli – There seems to be rave reviews so far based on the first mini-camp. Millen says he sees Paul Brown on the sidelines in Marinelli. Personally, I see Tom Coughlin and he sure does have a great track record with his players, doesn’t he?

2. Ben Wallace – I think there is more to this “blow-up” than what is being led on. He should have been discplined for one game just to send a statement.

3. Chris Shelton – Unbelievable start for the Tigers. Can he pitch too?

4. President’s Trophy – Doesn’t mean a thing. Look at the last 10 President’s Cup winners and see how well they have done in the playoffs. Plus, I’m burnt out on the Wings, even after a year off.

5. Favorite Easter Candy – Chocolate, chocolate, and chocolate. I personally hate jelly beans though!

Detroit Insider Breaking News

author Posted by: Leelanau Sports Guy on date Jan 30th, 2006 | filed Filed under: Norm the Detroit Insider

Just got this email from the Insider…

“Don’t Know If You Heard But…………………………..

Jerome Bettis is from Detroit. Just in case you didn’t know.”

My View: This is awesome news! He is from Detroit and playing in his last game at the Super Bowl in Detroit! WOW!

Check this out: Jerome Bettis Ate Detroit at Absolute Michigan

Harrington gets the starting nod…

author Posted by: Leelanau Sports Guy on date Dec 21st, 2005 | filed Filed under: Detroit Lions, Norm the Detroit Insider

This just in from the Detroit Insider…

“Joe Har will be starting QB for Saturday’s game. Orlovsky 2nd string, Garcia 3rd string.”

My View: He does give them the best chance to win in my opinion. I know Jauron thought Garcia did, but he was wrong and alot of people thought so. Joey now has a two game audition to win a couple of games and show he has what it takes to compete for a starting job next season.

McMahon to get another look…

I just got a message from my Detroit Insider and he said, “Mike McMahon to get more reps in practice this week”. Stay tuned……….
