Take Five with the Leelanau Sports Guy

Opinions on five current sports topics from yours truly…

1. Lions vs. Packers - This is definitely what a Thanksgiving matchup should be! Two division rivals squaring off. The division is virtually locked up for the Packers, but a Lions win keeps some hope alive. Plus you need to watch in case Roy Williams does get 300 yards receiving!

2. Michigan State Football - That was a big win against Penn State for many reasons, but the way the Spartans did it impressed me the most. Down 24-7, they didn’t quit and that says more than anything else to me about Mark Dantonio and his staff. The future at MSU is very bright.

3. Lloyd Carr - I always enjoyed his conversations at halftime with sideline reporters, I would not have wanted to be in their shoes. He will be missed, but it was time for him to step down. I know alot of U of M fans that are happy, but if I was a Michigan fan, I wouldn’t be. He ran a great program and really coached some high-quality kids. They had better make the right decision about the next coach, and I’m not sure that means Les Miles.

4. Football at The State - Michael Moore has opened up the State Theatre in Traverse City on Saturday morning and will be showing Traverse City St. Francis playing for a state title. A great idea for those who can’t make the trip. I am sure it’s going to be a packed house.

5. Leelanau Sports Guy’s World - I plan on spending some more time getting things cranking again, so look for a new design and more frequent posts in the near future. Thanks to all who visit and send me emails, I appreciate it!

I think you’re right about Carr, except I’m not so sure in the end it was a must. Yes, he appears to have had the game pass him by, but maybe he just didn’t have the team this year. Putting the Rose Bowl aside, last year the team was great. Almost as great as the 1997 team. I think if it wasn’t for the 5 months of time the Big Ten takes off before the bowl games, I think Michigan could have been more competitive in the Rose Bowl. Many times. Carr will be missed. And if Not Les Miles, how about Brian Kelly?

  2. Leelanau Sports Guy Says:

As a Spartan fan, I wouldn’t be too excited if Michigan hired Brian Kelly.

Kelly’s a great coach. I am happy with Dantonio but if MSU had hired Kelly, I’d be just as happy!

  3. Dan Joseph Says:

I wouldn’t be happy regardless. I don’t think hiring Dantonio over Kelly was exactly a wise decision. Kelly is a proven winner on all levels. He took CMU back to levels they hadn’t seen in many years. Now he took over a team built by Dantonio, and turned them into a winner. MSU picked the wrong guy. As a Spartan fan, you should just hope he can live up to what could have been.

I definitely agree that Lloyd Carr will be missed. Classic halftime interview!

“Coach, do you know the severity of Chad Henne’s injury? ”

    Lloyd: “Yes.”

    Good stuff.

I do think it is time for a change though. How about the Les Miles rumors?

  5. Leelanau Sports Guy Says:

I don’t know what to make of the Les Miles rumors. I still have this weird feeling he’s coming to Ann Arbor…
