Thank you Craig Monroe!

Let me start by saying, that thank goodness Mariano Rivera can’t save every game. I am not saying this wouldn’t have still happened, but the odds would have been much lower. Craig Monroe’s 3-run 9th inning homerun gave the Tigers a double-header split with the Yankees as they came from behind for a 5-3 win in Game 2. Nate Robertson was the hard-luck loser in game 1 in a 2-0 loss.
This could be one of the biggest wins of the year as the Tigers try to hold on to the lead in the AL Central. Here’s what Monroe had to say…
“It feels good to do something special for this team,” Monroe said. “They deserve (my) best effort, because they give me their best effort. And to give me an opportunity to win the game … actually, I don’t feel like I won the game.”
Go Tigers!

Billfer brought up a great point about Mariano Rivera on his blog. Carlos Guillen may have actually contributed to the Game 2 win in Game 1, by extending his at-bat vs. Rivera and extending his appearance. Thus, he wasn’t available for Game 2. Craig Monroe certainly appreciated it.
