Martz and Henderson introduced

Hearing and reading what our new offensive and defensive coordinators are talking about brings a smile to my face. I don’t think the Lions players realize yet how different this team is going to be underneath new head coach Rod Marinelli, OC Mike Martz and DC Donnie Henderson. My opinion is that it’s going to be night and day difference from the Mooch era, players are going to be accountable, practices are going to be hard, and the Lions are going to play aggressively on both sides of the ball.
Lots of interesting talk from Martz about Joey Harrington and Kevin Jones, and the three top-10 wideouts. I just have to believe that Martz is going crazy starting to come up with an offensive scheme to utilize all of this talent. I look for Kevin Jones to have a breakout year and I have a feeling Joey is going to be the quarterback. Martz liked him coming out of college and he can play the drop-back, in the pocket passer Martz’ offense requires.
The three wide receivers aren’t going to be able to pull their “diva” stuff anymore. Martz isn’t going to allow it (neither will Marinellli) and if they don’t perform they won’t be here.
On the defensive side, Henderson is going to be very agressive, with lots of blitzes and pressuring the quarterback. It should allow for this secondary to make some big plays as well.
I really think Marinelli has done the smart thing and put some real solid coordinators and coaches around him. The fact that he went out and got Martz shows alot about him as a person and his characters. Lots of first-year coaches wouldn’t want a former successful head coach right below them, but Marinelli realized that Martz was the best OC out there. Good move and shows that Marinelli’s ego won’t get in the way.
It’s only February, but I am already getting excited for the 2006 season. I know I am like alot of Lions fans who only want the best for their team and get all excited and suckered in, but they are still my Lions and I will support them all the way!

It is okay sports pig, we are all allowed to get excited about our teams, that is what the off season is for, a clean slate attitude.
I agree with everything you said about how they are definetly saying the right things. It is very true, Marinelli did one hell of a job putting a staff together. Being the head coach now he could not be solely into the defense, therefore he got a guy who could run it for him but still do it in his fashion. The OC move was also a case of getting the best guy available, like you said. Marinelli is a defensive guy and he knew he needed to hit a home run with the OC hiring, which it is clear he did. I agree, it says a lot about the man and how he wants no egos, only wins and accountability.
I also can’t wait, man we really are a sick bunch aren’t we!
