Pistons even series, Tigers lose Pudge, Pena Down, Shelton Up, NHL Talks

author Posted by: Leelanau Sports Guy on date Jun 1st, 2005 | filed Filed under: Leland Comets

It was good to see the Pistons bounce back and respond with a dominating performance. And as usual with the Pistons it started with defense. Rip slowed Wade early and it allowed the Pistons to build a lead they would never give up.

The Tigers lost to the Rangers, but a bigger loss was losing Pudge with a hand injury. Not sure on his status yet. Pena was moved to Toledo and Chris Shelton called up. Shelton has been spectacular for Toledo so far this season, while Pena has been a big disappointment. A nice article below about Carlos Guillen and what he means to the Tigers.

And what’s this? Another NHL article? Just another update on the labor situation and their upcoming meetings. I’m not holding my breath.

  1. the sports dude Said,

This series is driving me crazy! I predicted a seven games series that would be 2-2 after four, but never thought it would be like this! As “whinny” as it may sound, it is clear to me that the Pistons not only have to beat the Heat, they need to beat the officials as well. It is the damn Michael Jordan rules all over again! Whatever!?!? Look, the Pistons clearly are the better team, they have lead in every game with about 5 or 6 minutes left to go. But in each of the losses the refs started to blow the whitsle, put Wade on the line and take the Pistons out of their rhythm. Game #1 they won because they were allowed to play their game. Games #2 and #3 they were never allowed to play Pistons ball. Game #4 the refs tried to do it again, but at least this time the Pistons overcame it.

Look at the discrepancy in the calls here? You mean to tell me the Pacers/Pistons series was less physical? With all the history there? The refs let the players play in that series, that is how it should be. The question is can the Pistons overcome two more times, or is going to be handed to David Sterns next poster boy, aka, Dwayne “Flash” Wade? Only time will tell, but something tells me it is going to be harder for the Pistons than it should be.

    Later!
