You would have thought Glen Lake changed its school colors if you didn’t know better.
A sea of Spartan green and white bubbled excitedly in the stands of the old gymnasium as middle school students held a pep rally Tuesday in honor of Laker alumna Liz Shimek, whose Michigan State women’s basketball team played for the national championship later that evening.
“We’ve seen so much of Liz in the paper,” middle school teacher Carol Williams said. “Our big goal today is for her to see all of us are behind her.”
In just a 24-hour period, students organized the event that capped Liz Shimek Day in Kasson Township, as declared Monday night by the Kasson Township Board. Although her parents’ farm at the corner of County Road 669 and M-72 has a mailing address of Empire, it is located in Kasson Township.
