Pistons and Spartans win, U-M and MSU Football Recruiting classes updates, Ordonez Watch and other top stories

Last night’s game action…

NBA: Detroit Pistons 88, Indiana Pacers 76
I watched parts of the second half and to me the Pistons are looking sharp. They played solid defensively once again and the frontline has been tough. Carlos Arroyo has given the bench a huge lift and looks like a steal right now. The Wallaces are dominating down low on both ends of the floor. Watch out Eastern Conference, the Pistons are going to show everyone why they are world champs the second half of the season. Read a Game Summary

NCAA Men’s: #15 Michigan St. 64, Michigan 53
I watched the first half, and parts of the second, and it was about what I expected. Michigan did get off to a nice 7-0 run at the start of the game, but it was basically all MSU after that. Maurice Ager did the most damage for the Spartans as they stayed one game behind first place Illinois. Read a Game Summary

NCAA Women’s: Iowa 71, Michigan 63
I didn’t watch this, so here’s short breakdown from MGoBlue.com.
Another late-game comeback by the University of Michigan women’s basketball team fell short at Iowa on Thursday (Jan. 27) as the Wolverines dropped a 71-63 decision at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Michigan (5-14, 1-7 Big Ten), which fell behind 12-2 to start the game and trailed by as many as 20 points, used an 11-0 run to cut Iowa’s lead to five, 68-63, with 47 seconds left but did not score again. I tell yah, NFL Fever for Xbox was a lot better game than Madden is. For starters, you don’t have the stupid Madden physics that guaranty a catch one in four throws. Now they’re going to end the ESPN/Sega NFL franchise that $19.95 compared to $49.95. Its a monopoly and its bad for games. This outraged me.

I am not too sure if the EA/NFL deal will be as bad as some people are making it out to be. For what it is worth, I have been a big Madden slappy since the early PS1 days and have not even purchased anything outside the EA Sports family as far as sports games are concerned. I tried some of the others, the ESPN games for example, but did not enjoy the graphics or the game play. To me, this years Madden has been outstanding. I am a geek, so I will tell you my almost all U of M team is in it’s third season, having gone 16-0 each year with multiple super bowl victories. And, for the record, I don’t cheat - the team I have constructed is just that good! Plus, the player ain’t too shabby either! Alright, I am a geek - back to the point.

The market already dictated that Madden was the best, so what is going to change? I can not see them suddenly slacking off and making crappy games, that would be the only down fall to the deal. But, like I said, I don’t see it happening. We all will survive, I will continue to make my all Wolverine teams and Madden will continue to be the best football game out there. Except this time because there are no other choices.

Besides, don’t you think that this gives some small company five years to develop a game that will blow Madden away when the contract is up? The thought of that alone is a light at the end of the tunnel if you ask me? I have seen peaks of the next Madden, and with PS3 on the horizon, five years from now, five years to develop - DAMN that would be a great game!!!!

    Later - the sports dude.
