After conducting 176 state title games during the last 29 seasons at the Pontiac Silverdome, the Michigan High School Athletic Association has entered into a three-year agreement with Ford Field to host its football finals, starting this fall.
“With the future of the Pontiac Silverdome in doubt, this is a necessary move for high school football in our state, and it will be great to have our premier games played in one of the premier facilities in the country,” John E. “Jack” Roberts, the MHSAA’s executive director, said Thursday in a news release.
Pontiac officials said early this month they plan to announce in February what will be done with the little-used stadium, where the Detroit Lions played from 1975 until moving to Ford Field in 2002.
Last year, for the price of a $9 ticket that included on-site parking at the Silverdome, a person attending the finals could watch two games. The MHSAA said at the 2005 finals, a $9 ticket will be good for all four title games but parking will not be included in the ticket price.
My view: No surprise here. It’s nice they are giving a break on ticket prices to make up for the parking that people will have to pay.

The price for parking at Ford Field will be $6 for all of the Olympia Entertainment lots around Ford Field and Comerica Park.
That’s less than what you pay to park at MSU for girls and boys basketball!
