Three letters spell out goal of Leland ace
Free Press article by Mick McCabe
Each time Alisha Glass walks into the Leland gym she looks up at the 2002 state championship volleyball banner, sees her name and curses.
OK, maybe she doesn’t curse — she leaves that to her grandfather, who is recovering from a broken leg. But she winces a bit when she sees her name among those of the girls who led the Comets to that Class D state championship.
It isn’t that Glass wasn’t proud to see her school win the championship — she was downright delirious. “That was awesome,” she recalled. “I was one of our girls jumping around and screaming when we won it.”
The problem Glass has with her name on the banner are the three letters that follow her name: “MGR.”
My View: It’s always nice to see northern Michigan athletes get press statewide. Although when you are one of the best volleyball players in the state it should be a surprise.
