Here’s an article by NBA writer Mary Burns talking about the Pistons in regards to Baron Davis, how the Pistons are playing better but still have a ways to go, and no the recent rumors surrounding Bill Laimbeer and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Burning Questions: Davis may be next to leave Big Easy; Pistons cautiously optimistic - SI.com article by Marty Burns
My view: Davis to the Pacers would be big problems for the Pistons and Heat. I for one don’t want to see this trade. As far as the Pistons recent winning streak, they are doing it against lesser foes. They will come around, but this team is built for the playoffs, so you can just relax until spring. The Pistons will defend their title well. As far as Laimbeer to the Cavs…so far it appears to just be big-time rumors. Time will tell, and at some point I do see him getting into the NBA ala Michael Cooper with the Nuggets.

I am actually posting about this today, the Laimbeer thing, but from a different angle. Check it out later if you get the chance.
I just don’t like the Baron Davis talk at all, especially if it involves moving Billups. Billups finally plays to Brown’s liking and fits the mold of the “team”. He would be missed too much. Davis is injury prone, shoots too much and would have to be “broken in” by Brown, and I don’t think Larry has the energy to do that again. Davis for Billups, that would be a down grade, but that is my opinion.

I will check it out Sports Dude. I agree 100% on the Billups issue. I don’t see the Pistons making that move.
I also don’t want Davis to end up in the Eastern Conference. I think if you throw him in the mix in Indiana that would be a significant upgrade for the Pacers and would make them very dangerous. Although without Artest I don’t think they have a shot.
The Pistons biggest hurdle will be the Heat and Shaq. I think they can beat them in a 7 game series, but not playing like they are right now. Hamilton the leading scorer without any field goals, ouch, that’s ugly.

I also think that him coming back to the eastern conference would be bad, but I have faith in Dumars that he won’t make a move that bold to just stop someone else. Let him go to the Pacers, they still don’t scare me with or without him. I said it at the beginning of the season that the Pistons would make it to the Finals and I still believe that. I also still expect them to win the division - the Pacers will never catch up and the Cavs will eventually get tired and collapse. As far as the Heat are concerned - we beat Shaq in the Finals last year with a much better supporting cast. This year, we will get him again - with a worse supporting cast. They do need to start playing better, and they will - I still expect them to come close to 60 wins. Bye - the sports dude.
