Tigers’ free agent targets headed elsewhere
Article by Danny Knobler - MLive.com
Detroit — Troy Glaus isn’t going to be a Detroit Tiger, and it looks like Steve Finley won’t be, either.
Carl Pavano? Don’t count on it.
The Tigers had hoped to make a free-agent splash this week by signing both Glaus and Finley, and they also hoped to be in contention for the services of Pavano, baseball’s most-sought free-agent starting pitcher. Instead, baseball sources said Wednesday night, Glaus will be introduced today as the Arizona Diamondbacks’ new third baseman.
What’s more, Finley has told people that he intends to stay on the west coast. With both San Francisco and Anaheim interested, it’s become clear that the center fielder isn’t coming to the Tigers.
My view: Not good news, but their are still lots of great players out there. The Tigers will get some of them (possibility of Lowe, Beltre, ???) and keep heading toward the top of the Central Division.
